【Master's Students】

(1) I would like to take courses offered by other departments at NCCU or at other universities. Is this allowed, and how do I apply? Yes, it is allowed. Please follow the "National Chengchi University Regulations for Domestic Inter-University Course Selection" and the "National Chengchi University Course Implementation Regulations."

  • The maximum number of credits you can take from other departments or other universities is capped at 7 credits.

  • You may take a maximum of 6 credits per semester from master's programs at other universities, and you must obtain prior approval from the Department before enrolling.

(2) I am a new student. How should I register for courses? Except for the university-mandated "Academic Research Ethics Education Course," the Department's Master's program currently has no required courses. Students may freely select courses. You can graduate after completing 28 credits and writing your thesis. For related regulations, we strongly recommend thoroughly reading the guidelines under "Course Information" → "Master's Program" on the Department website, as well as the "Regulations for Degree Study and Qualifying Examinations for Graduate Students in the Master's Program, Department of Japanese, National Chengchi University."

(3) What is the "Academic Research Ethics Education Course"? Master's students enrolled from the 105th Academic Year onwards must take and pass the Academic Research Ethics Education Course before the end of their first academic year. Students who fail to pass this course are not allowed to apply for the degree examination.

  • Course Format: Please take the 6-hour online course and complete the assessment on your own. If you fail the assessment, you must retake the online course. For course-related links, please refer to: Office of Academic Affairs → Registration Section → Academic Research Ethics Education Course Section.

  • The Registration Section will send out email notifications regarding course registration matters. If students have any related questions, please contact the Registration Section directly.

(5) What is the schedule for the day of the oral defense? What are the time limits for the presentation and the Q&A session? Please discuss the duration of your final oral defense presentation with your advisor. Past students have had presentations ranging from 20 to 30 minutes. There is no strict time limit for the Q&A session. Generally, the entire final oral defense takes about 2 hours.

(6) What documents do I need to prepare on the day of the defense (e.g., transcript confirmation, physical copies of the thesis)? The mandatory documents for the day of the defense include: the Oral Defense Score Sheet, the Committee Members' Signature Page, and the Electronic Thesis Academic Quality Agreement. You can prepare these in advance, or arrive early at the Department Office on the day of the defense to prepare them.

(7) Do I need to prepare refreshments for the committee members on the day of the oral defense? The Department Office does not encourage the culture of providing refreshments. However, different professors have different practices; please follow your advisor's guidance on this matter.

(8) I have other questions! Please ask senior students directly or contact the Department Office via email (japanese@nccu.edu.tw).
