【Departmental Courses】

  • Joint Undergraduate/Graduate Electives: The elective courses "Classical Japanese Grammar" (Course Code: 556894001), "Japanese-Chinese Literature and Its Intertwined Heritage" (Course Code: 556739001), and "Special Topics in Modern Japanese Political and Diplomatic History (3)" (Course Code: 556740001) are open jointly to both undergraduate and graduate students. Juniors and seniors who are interested are highly encouraged to enroll.

  • Summer Intensive Course: Although "Vietnamese Chinese Characters (Chữ Hán) and Cultural Exchanges in East Asia" is a joint undergraduate/graduate summer intensive course, its registration deadline was June 17 (Wednesday). Please note that no further course additions or drops will be accepted for this class.

  • Core Language Courses & Strict Capacity Caps: For the 2026 academic year, "Japanese Conversation Drill (I) & (II)" and "Japanese Composition (I) & (II)" will each be divided into three sections (Classes A, B, and C). Each section has a strict maximum capacity of 20 students. Any course addition petitions (overrides) will also be capped strictly within this 20-student limit; no over-enrollment will be permitted under any circumstances.

  • Automated Section Swapping Policy: Starting from the upcoming semester, the system will automatically swap sections (and consequently, instructors) for Class B of "Japanese Conversation Drill (II)," "Japanese Composition (I)," and "Japanese Composition (II)." To maintain an equal distribution of student numbers and language proficiency levels across the three sections, all Department of Japanese students (including double majors) are prohibited from dropping or changing their assigned sections, unless a special physical or mental health condition is verified and officially approved by the department.

  • Course Conflict Resolution: If you experience scheduling conflicts next semester and choose not to take "Japanese Conversation Drill (II)," "Japanese Composition (I)," or "Japanese Composition (II)," please complete the attached Course Drop Application Form and submit it to the Department Office by September 2 (Wednesday)(Digital copies are accepted; please email to japanese@nccu.edu.tw). Submissions after September 2 will not be processed by the department office; students must handle their own drop requests at the Registration Section during the official add/drop and petition period.

【Minor Program Courses】

  • Minimum Enrollment and Class Cancellation Policy: Starting from the 2024 academic year, all courses under the Minor Program must have a minimum of 20 enrolled students to officially run. Courses with fewer than 20 students will be canceled in two stages:

    1. After the Add/Drop phase, if enrollment is below 16 students, the course will be canceled.

    2. After the Course Petition (Addition/Withdrawal) phase, if enrollment is below 20 students, the course will be canceled. The Department Office will notify instructors and registered students once a cancellation is finalized. Students are strongly advised to monitor course enrollment numbers regularly.

  • Curriculum Adjustments & Course Substitutions:

    • "Japanese Reading (I) & (II)" apply strictly to students who declared their Minor in or after the 2024 academic year. Minor students who declared prior to the 2024 academic year must take "Intermediate Japanese" instead. Please refer to the "Expanded Table of Course Substitutions for Minors" for full details.

    • For the 2026 academic year, the curriculum changes to Japanese Reading (I)"Elementary Japanese" will not be offered.

    • "Japanese Drill (I) & (II)" have been restructured into "Japanese Listening Practice" and "Advanced Japanese Listening Practice." Minor students registered prior to the 2024 academic year should use Japanese Listening Practice to waive Japanese Drill (I), and Advanced Japanese Listening Practice to waive Japanese Drill (II). (Credit waivers can be processed during your final graduating semester).

  • For any further inquiries regarding the Minor Program or for non-major students, please read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page thoroughly.
